The UCC Photonic Systems Group, funded by SFI, was created at University College Cork, Republic of Ireland, in Summer 2003 to investigate advanced photonic systems. In the first months the group has been setting up laboratories and Ando has been able to meet the needs of the UCC Photonics Systems Group by supplying the AP9950/51 40Gb/s BERT system and many other systems.

As part of the contract Takayuki Ema, Yokogawa Europe's product specialist, installed and tested the 40Gb/s BERT AP9950/51 system on site and has trained the group in the use of the system. In this way we try to ensure that the full functionallity of the system will be available to the UCC Photonics Systems Group.
The quality and reliability in general in combination with the strong support from the Yokogawa Europe organization and DMOptics have been the decisive factors to chose for all these ANDO products.
In addition, the AP9950/51 is very userfriendly and this has been very important for the UCC Photonics Systems Group. Further it is considered important that the system is compact and easy to set up, because the system will also be used at the Optoelectronics Research Group from the University College Cork with whom the Photonics Systems Group at UCC is collaborating.
This important milestone for ANDO in Europe is an excellent example of the ongoing research in the field of high speed transmission.
